Across Europe, conversations about skills shortages, workforce gaps, and labour-market mismatches are everywhere. But while the data exists, it’s often scattered across surveys, platforms, and technical databases that are difficult to navigate. What if all that information could be explored in one place? That’s exactly what the TRAILS Portal delivers.

Developed as part of the EU-funded TRAILS Project under the Horizon Europe programme, the portal transforms complex labour-market data into clear, interactive insights, designed for policymakers, researchers, and anyone working on skills and employment issues.
A Unified View of Europe’s Skills Landscape
Europe collects extensive data on employment, education, income, and workforce participation. However, these sources are often dispersed and technically demanding to analyse. The TRAILS Portal integrates key European surveys, including the EU Labour Force Survey (EU-LFS), the European Skills and Jobs Survey (ESJS), the Adult Education Survey (AES), EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC), and the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS), into a single, structured system. By harmonising these datasets, the platform provides insights into:
This integrated approach enables cross-country comparisons and supports a more comprehensive understanding of workforce dynamics across Europe.
In addition to harmonised European datasets, the portal also hosts analytical outputs produced within the TRAILS project, such as indicators on skills mismatch and job allocation quality, state-of-the-art indicators based on project’s partners research and analysis. The platform is continuously updated as new datasets and research results become available.
Interactive Tools for Evidence-Based Policy
The TRAILS Portal is more than a data repository. It offers:
The platform is built to be both user-friendly and technically robust, ensuring accessibility for a broad audience while maintaining high analytical standards. One of the key strengths of the TRAILS Portal is its broad usability across different stakeholder groups.
In short, the portal bridges the gap between complex statistical systems and real-world decision-making.
Supporting Europe’s Strategic Transitions
Europe is undergoing major transformations such as digitalisation, green transition, and demographic shifts. These changes are reshaping labour markets faster than ever. Understanding where skills gaps exist and for whom, is essential for building resilient economies and inclusive societies. The TRAILS Portal helps turn data into evidence. And evidence into action. By making labour-market intelligence accessible and comparable across Europe, it supports smarter policies and more targeted interventions.
